Responsibilities:
- Lead risk management advisory projects, including conducting risk assessments, providing outsourced risk and Data Protection Officer (DPO) functions, conducting thematic reviews and gap analyses, remediating risk policies and procedures, implementing regulatory remediation plans, and offering technical and operational assistance to executives, Chief Risk Officers, and risk functions in financial services firms.
- Oversee the risk advisory services function.
- Manage the specialized unit within the risk and compliance function.
- Mentor and coach staff identified as contributors to risk advisory practice areas.
- Lead and manage consultancy engagements related to risk, data protection, and ESG considerations.
- Support risk and regulatory advisory projects, including, financial services audits, regulatory and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) compliance, business advisory support, internal strategic and thematic reviews, and internal project management.
- Identify and pitch risk consultancy services to newer industries.
- Prospect for new clients and engage with existing clients to expand services.
- Coordinate and participate in relevant conferences.
- Develop and deliver training material through educational platforms.
- Organize thematic workshops for existing and potential clients.
- Produce articles and publications showcasing expertise.
- Possess a university degree or equivalent qualification in finance, banking, financial services, business, economics, accounting, risk management, or a related field.
- Bring a minimum of 8+ years of experience within financial services or financial institutions.
- Ideally, have at least 5+ years of experience in a risk management role, compliance, regulatory functions, internal audit, or similar fields (preferred but not mandatory).
- Demonstrate senior management experience within the second line of defense in a business setting.
- Exhibit a combination of qualitative and quantitative expertise in financial risk assessments, with particular knowledge of stress testing, ICAAP, and ILAAP (or equivalent frameworks).
- Possess a strong understanding of the Supervisory Review and Evaluation Process (SREP) and the relevant regulatory guidance, including MFSA expectations around banking regulations.
