Our client, a reputable Corporate Services Provider in Malta, is looking to expand their team with the addition of a Compliance Officer / MLRO. This role offers an exciting opportunity to join a well-established firm and contribute to its continued success.
Key Responsibilities:
As MLRO:
- Oversee and strengthen the company’s Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Counter-Terrorist Financing (CTF) framework in line with Maltese and EU regulations.
- Conduct ongoing transaction monitoring, investigate suspicious activity, and submit Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) to the FIAU as needed.
- Manage sanctions screening, PEP monitoring, and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) processes for high-risk clients.
- Ensure robust KYC and CDD procedures are implemented across all company operations.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation and records of AML investigations to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Stay up to date with AML laws, FATF recommendations, and FIAU guidance to ensure company-wide compliance.
- Deliver AML training sessions and raise awareness across the business to embed a strong culture of compliance.
As Compliance Officer:
- Serve as the appointed Compliance Officer and main liaison with the MFSA for audits, regulatory reporting, and ongoing correspondence.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director and Group Compliance Team (local and international) to implement and manage an effective compliance monitoring programme.
- Advise on regulatory developments, internal policy alignment, and governance requirements to maintain full compliance with MFSA rules and financial services laws.
- Regularly review and update internal policies, procedures, and controls to reflect evolving legal and regulatory expectations.
- Conduct internal compliance audits, assess risk exposure, and recommend areas for improvement.
- Prepare detailed compliance reports for senior management and regulatory authorities.
- Lead training and awareness sessions on regulatory duties, ethical conduct, and data protection across all levels of staff.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Law, Business, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in regulatory compliance, AML/CFT, or within financial services.
- Proven experience as an MLRO, Compliance Officer, or in a similar senior-level compliance position.
- In-depth knowledge of AML regulations, MFSA requirements, FIAU guidelines, and EU directives on financial crime.
- Familiarity with AML reporting platforms (e.g. GoAML) and transaction monitoring systems.
- Strong experience in regulatory liaison, compliance reviews, and handling formal regulatory submissions.
- PQ’d with the MFSA or eligible to qualify as a Compliance Officer is considered an asset.
- Sharp analytical skills with a keen eye for detail and the ability to make sound, risk-based decisions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence in training and advising both staff and leadership.
